Teamwork – The starting point for organisational improvement
In today's modern world, regardless of whether our "team" is a complex business organisation, a high performance sports team, or simply our family group, it is a fundamental fact that each of us can benefit from the "talents" of the other team members.
We each only have a part of the information, expertise and skill to get the job done...regardless of the job.
In 1986 a survey conducted by the Carnegie-Mellon University asked people :
"What percentage of the knowledge you need to do your job is stored in your mind?"
In 1986 the answer was approximately 75%
In 1997 the answer was between 15 and 20%
Nearly 20 years on from this original survey it is estimated that the current answer would be in the region of 10% to 15%.
Clearly we realise these days the increasing importance of the “talents” of other team members.
How Can We Improve the Teamwork in our Organisation?
